Outline

 

The primary purpose of academic advising is to guide and support students throughout their study journey to confirm that they are successful in accomplishing their career goals and objectives. This is accomplished through continuous and consistent communication between the student and the subject advisor. Effective counseling depends on a number of factors, all of which contribute to the overall success of the student. It depends on shared understanding and commitment to the student orientation process, the counselors, and the college.

 

Some of the responsibilities of academic advisors include:

 

  • Advise and assist students regarding their program and courses requirements.
  • Assist students with registration issues and offer guidance with course selection.
  • Identify options for students to meet specific degree requirements, evaluate and make recommendations on requests, and make adjustments to the student's curriculum.
  • Encourage and guide students for preparing and planning their career

 

Student Responsibilities:

 

  • Know the significance of the connection with their advisors.
  • Obtain the information necessary to recognize the degree requirements in their individual degree programs
  • Seek the help of academic advisors / staff or other college resources on a regular basis.
  • Informed the assigned academic advisors / staff for any academic problems and challenges they may face.
  • Take full responsibility for your decisions based on the finest advice and info provided.
