Academic Programs

About our programs

The department offers academic programs based on integrated knowledge and skills related to groundwater, its movement, paths and quality and their quantities And its practical and field applications, and methods of managing and preserving groundwater resources. The department offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in hydrogeology and its various branches

Bachelor program

The bachelor's program is characterized by basic subjects in applied geology, identification of water-bearing geological layers, knowledge of water paths, characteristics of the water reservoir, the quality and quantity of groundwater, methods of exploitation and management, and in accordance with the national plan for water management in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Program objectives

The main objective of the Department of Hydrogeology is to provide students with the latest developments in the field of hydrogeology, assisted by integration with modern technology such as remote sensing, GIS, geophysics, Artificial Intelligent and statistics. This objective leads to the following sub-objectives:

  1. Graduating highly qualified students and improving their skills in subjects related to the field of Hydrogeology to make them suitable for the job market.
  2. Participate in research and consultation studies in the department, preparation and writing of technical reports; practical, analytical and research skills; capacity for self-learning and self-development and utilizing new technologies in the field of hydrogeology.
  3. Trained students to solve problems in hydrogeology and make decisions about hydrogeologic issues that involve uncertainty in data, scant/incomplete data, and the variability of natural materials.
  4. Built capability to evaluate the consequences at various scales of using groundwater: 1) local/physical changes (e.g., changes in flow), 2) ecosystem changes (e.g., changes in groundwater/surface water interactions), and 3) political/social issues (e.g., water rights).
  5. Identifying the interconnections in systems and predicting how changes in one part of the system will influence other parts.
Program admission requirement (general conditions)

Students must complete 72 credit units of university and college requirements to place a request for admission the program. When students successfully finish the 6th semester (equivalent to 98 credit units) their application is processed. Students are admitted to the program if their GPA is 3.5/5.0 or more and received a minimum grade of 85 “B+” in Hydrogeology (EHG 211).

Program completion and graduation requirements

Students graduates from the proagram after successfully completing all courses prescribed by the plan and completing 207 credit hours and passing KAU Exit Exam.
