History
The Hydrogeology department was founded as an independent specialization at the Institute of
Applied Geology in 1970 (1390 H). The department started as a higher education graduate program in 1975 (1395 H)
when the institute was merged to King Abdulaziz University. Then, the Geology Department at the Faculty of Science was
combined with the Institute of Applied Geology under the Faculty of Earth Sciences name. The Hydrogeology department
now offers Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. degree.
The department has contributed to many studies and research in the various fields of hydrogeology, and contributed to the
graduation of scientific competencies, whether from the bachelor or postgraduate level, who were and still have
contributions and services in the various sectors of the state and participate in development plans for water resources, their
management and preservation.
